Gooru’s Math Navigator addresses this issue by identifying and bridging each student’s math learning gaps, with proven research results. No matter at what grade- or ability-level a learner begins, Math Navigator generates an individualized pathway and provides highly- curated, personalized suggestions to help them reach their goals.
Gooru has developed Navigated Learning technology using a competency-based approach. This technology, Gooru Navigator, is designed for equity, inclusiveness, diversity, and scale. Researchers, content providers, implementers, funders, and educators with strong foundations in the learning sciences, artificial intelligence, and pedagogical practice have informed the Navigator’s design. As a “GPS for learning”, Navigator begins by locating each learner’s current knowledge, skills, and mindsets. Then, using that data, Navigator presents the learner with a personalized route to guide them to their learning destination, allowing for re-routes based on their performance. (Navigator Overview). Using Gooru Navigator, learners can see their personalized pathway and monitor their progress independently.
How can students get free access to Math Navigator?
Each college or university can direct its incoming freshmen to the MERLOT website. There, students will find simple instructions to create an account on Gooru and access Math Navigator. Math Navigator is completely free for students.
Students can work independently, without needing to be rostered into an instructor’s course. If the student eventually switches from independent study of Math Navigator to an instructor-implemented approach, all of their learning data will travel with them. Students can print their progress reports anytime as a proof of completion of the course.
How can HBCUs adopt Gooru Navigator university-wide and monitor student performance data?
If your college or university decides to adopt this model, we have easy-to-understand training materials for school leadership on how to access data through our Mission Control tool. We also have training and resources for instructors, administrators, and curriculum designers, including a how-to guide, in-depth support articles, and video resources on key features.
In this model, student access to Math Navigator remains free; however, the college or university pays a fee of $1 per active user per year, subject to the minimum fee of $2,000 a year. This provides the college or university with its own tenancy on Gooru Navigator and training for the administrative staff on how to monitor data and use Navigator Mission Control.
Gooru Navigator can be explored from the homepage of the Gooru website. Additional details about Gooru Navigator features, users, and efficacy can be found on the website as well. For any questions or a demo of the product, please feel free to email us at info@gooru.org.
