Home

This site hosts a collection of supplemental details on musical pieces as well as study and listening guides that may be used in music appreciation, music history, or introduction to music studies courses. All materials are intended for teaching students with little or no musical background. The intended level ranges from high school to lower level undergraduates; however, parts of these materials may be used for enrichment at other levels. Each page aims  to provide a multimedia-rich experience, sourced from public domain as well as Creative Commons licensed works.

The pieces selected are used to illustrate musical styles and practices. Click on the links under this page's navigation (upper right corner by the banner) to search through them. A drop-down menu of the styles and composers/musicians should appear. This site has been made available for public use, but please understand that this is a work in progress. At the moment, the goal is to post listening guides for my course's Units 1 and 2: Music Foundations and Jazz, so the content includes just pre-jazz and jazz pieces. More pieces will be added within the next few months.
