The following are four virtual lessons available to faculty related to Creative Commons and Education. These modules were peer reviewed by Copyright Attorneys to check for accuracy. Following completion, a Certificate of Completion is awarded. These virtual lessons are published free as open education resources with Creative Commons licenses.
Module 1: Creative Commons: The History and Current State
Description: This lesson focuses on the origins and history of Creative Commons to the present. Items of focus include: the reasons for the invention of Creative Commons, the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, Eldred vs Ashcroft, the Creative Commons Organization, intended purposes of Creative Commons licenses, the numbers of Creative Commons licensed works today, and the Creative Commons Global Network.

Module 2: Basics of Copyright Law for Educators
Description: This virtual lesson focuses on the Basics of Copyright Law for Educators. The purpose of Copyright Law, what is protected by Copyright Law and what is not, other methods of protecting intellectual property, how to obtain copyright protection, public domain, and exemptions to Copyright Law are explained in this virtual lesson.

Module 3: Anatomy of a Creative Commons License
Description: This virtual lesson focuses on the Anatomy of a Creative Commons License. In this virtual lesson, we will explore the concepts of:
- the three layers of the Creative Commons licenses,
- the four license elements
- icons for the licenses
- the six Creative Commons licenses,
- how the Creative Commons licenses affect exceptions and limitations to copyright, and
- how the Creative Commons licenses impact in the public domain.

Module 4: Using Creative Common Licenses and Creative Commons-Licensed Works
Description: This virtual lesson focuses on the use of a Creative Commons License and using works with a Creative Commons License. In this virtual lesson, we will explore the concepts of:
- A description of a collection
- A description of a remix / adapted work / derivative work
- A collection about Empathy, to show a sample of how to identify two existing CC-licensed works
- A sample attribution statement for the collection that adheres to licensing expectations for collections
