 Introduction to the MERLOT Peer Review Process

Welcome

Welcome to Module 1 of MERLOT GRAPE Camp, a MERLOT Peer Review Orientation. In Module 1:

  • You will become familiar with MERLOT and our structure. 
  • You will be introduced to the MERLOT Peer Review Process.
  • You will look at some MERLOT Peer Reviews.
  • You will understand how to do a casual review of a teaching material.
  • You will see how one does a detailed review of a teaching material.

Module Activities

This module is presented in five videos:

  • In part A we cover MERLOT history and structure
  • In part B, we look more closely at the parts of the MERLOT Peer Review.
  • In Part C, we do a Tour of MERLOT and look at some actual MERLOT Peer Reviews.
  • In Supplement 1, we conduct a casual review of "How People Rationalize Fraud."
  • In Supplement 2, we see how to do a detailed review of this resource.

Assignments

1. Try the Browse and Search functions to explore MERLOT materials in your discipline. (You can also look at MERLOT Material Categories for a complete list of categories.) Add User Ratings and Comments to 3 or 4 of them. The instructions are in the Hand-outs.

2.  Think about which Editorial Board may best fit your particular expertise. Look at the Community Portals to see which disciplines have Editorial Boards.
