Frozen hands                         Ice melting activity 

I put the word water in the middle of the board and asked the children “what kind of things we do with water?” I received responses like we drink it., it makes waves., we swim in it and other comments that I wrote on the bored then I had a child yell out ‘it freezes when we put in the cold” 

The children were able to use their past knowledge to make connections with the preset questions. 

The children are demonstrating their learning in the fondations using SC1.2: Demonstrate awareness of the physical properties of objects by performing actions with objects and observing results and SC1.1: Demonstrate ability to explore objects in the physical world.There was  a crossover with foundation PHG3.1: Demonstrate development of fine and gross motor coordination because of using the tweezer to pick items of the ice. The children are describing what they see and feel while they are melting the frozen hands.

This is what the gloves looked like when before they were filled with water. 

The children are working on fine motor and conversation skills. They were asked to tell their what they were putting inside their gloves using these sentence frames.

The children are using tweezers and spoons to put feathers, glitter, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, and googly eyes into the gloves.

This is what the gloves looked like after the children filled them with water and water color after the were frozen.

The children are using eye droppers, medicine syringes, spoons, small shovels, sidewalk salt, warm water, and table salt to melt the ice and free their treasures.
