Nutr 203: Historical Sketch

Researching Michelle Obama and her role in the world today was an important part for me in the Nutrition 203 course. Learning how she influences healthy lifestyles in people through all walks of life is motivational for me. For my future self, I hope to not try to make drastic changes in people so they eventually give up. Rather take each client on their own personal level and help he or she the best that I can.

Nutr 205: Code of Ethics Assignment

Code of Ethics for Nutrition and Dietetics was provided in both lecture and reading forms. The Code of Ethics assignment listed multiple cases that occurred in the healthcare setting. Each case was classified as a business dispute or an ethical dispute. Ethical disputes in the case studies were paired to the principle and standard that was jeopardized.

Nutr 205: Mentoring Assignment

A lecture was spent to focus on not only the importance of mentoring, but the types of methods used. The mentoring assignment connected me to a senior dietetics student. Our first meeting was spent getting to know each other and the importance of science coursework. The second meeting was mostly spent discussing volunteer experiences that. Lastly, we discussed her experience with the DICAS and my readiness for it.

Nutr 485:  IPE Dental Project

In Medical Nutrition Therapy I, I was given the opportunity to work interprofessionally with dental hygiene students in two seperate groups and patient's. The project allowed me to develop an effective care plan with interprofessional team members, negotiate responsibilities with an overlapping scope of practice, include the client in decision making, identify and describe my responsibilities to the team members and patient, learn with, from, and about interprofessional team members to enhance care, and promote effective communication among members of an interprofessional team. IPE KHA.docxIPE KTC.docxAdime pateint 2 .docxadime for patient 1.docx

Nutr 496:  Debate Assignment

The Leadership and Professional Issues in Food and Nutrition debate assignment allowed me to explore current issues and provide suggestions on how to effectively deal with these issues. The issue I chose to explore in great detail was how the food industry has contributed to obesity but has also made food accessible. An extensive library search was completed from the following perspectives: history, politics, science, legal, religious, cultural, ethical, and economical. Agencies and organizations that have addressed the issue, what impacts they have made, current policies in place, and solutions to the problem were identified. The debate was formally presented and written in the form of a research paper. Debate Paper one drive.docxLeadership Debate.pptx

Nutr 481: Reflection

The course Nutrition Education, Counseling, and Theory taught me a variety of practical applications when working with clients. I have learned how to assess individual’s readiness to change, different theories of education to use, and how to speak with clients in a counseling setting. From a hands-on approach of speaking with actual clients and role playing in class, to lectures on different probing questions to use, I have learned how to navigate conversations with clients. This course deepened my understanding on the transtheoretical model. This model was used in a variety of projects, such as the Nutrition Counseling Flyer, case studies, and in class activities. My e-portfolio showcases this information by highlighting projects and nutrition counseling and only one section on billing and coding. Reflecting on my e-portfolio tells me that I will need to research further into billing and coding. In the future, I know that I will need to stay current on insurance policies. The billing and coding lecture taught me the importance of these policies and how they will impact our client’s view on seeking treatment.e-Portfolio assignment(1).docx

Nutr 486: Reflection

Medical Nutrition Therapy II has taught me about how to assess, diagnose, intervene, and monitor nutritional risks associated with various diseases. The course offered case studies, electronic health record notes, lectures, interdisciplinary projects, and quizzes. Case studies included patients who had chronic kidney disease, metabolic stress, celiac disease, COPD, and anorexia nervosa. Electronic health record notes included cell injury, cerebral palsy, and cystic fibrosis. Lectures covered information on the MNT of the liver, respiratory, gastrointestinal, cancer, and other metabolic diseases. Also, discussions included the pathophysiology, dietary treatments, and evidence supporting the diseases previously stated. For future growth, I have learned about all the reliable sources that I should use. Also, working in an interprofessional environment is key to supporting positive health outcomes for the patient. eport mnt 2.docx
