EDID6151 Forces and Motion Grade 6

The course was designed to introduce 6th graders to forces and motion using a blended approach.

Pedagogical Approach

The course tutorial presentation provides a brief overview of the topic of forces and motion. Students will be required to do further reading using the learning materials associated with this ePortfolio.

Learning Outcomes

This unit has been created to guide you through the topic of Forces and Motion. 

This is designed to cover the following topics:

• What is a force is and describe the different types of forces.
• Newton’s 3 laws of motion.
• The Friction force.
• Static and kinetic friction.
• Simple harmonic motion and mechanical resonance.
• Acceleration caused by gravity affects such motion.
• Impact of forces and its application in the real-world.

Assessment

A formative assessment methodology will be used to assess student competency in the topic.

  1. Students will be required to work in groups to complete a practical exercise. They must also use technology to create a presentation or movie describing the process and post to an online platform. 
  2. The online learning platform will also be used to allow students to engage with each other in a discussion forum.

Rubrics are provided for each learning exercise to guide students on the expectations of each of the assessment activities.
