This three semester hour course examines issues of diversity in colleges and universities from varied perspectives, including institutional; pedagogical; methodological; gender, race/ethnicity and class; and policy.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss the elements of strategic planning and utilize them to structure activities that will promote diversity priorities at the school/college, dean, and/or department level that are consistent with the institution’s mission and/or vision statement;
  2. Design a protocol for integrating diversity and/or multicultural issues within selected curricular

offerings of an institution in order to foster a diverse learning environment for all students;

  1. Develop a faculty diversity recruitment model that incorporates the necessary components to assure that an institution’s hiring and promotion criteria adequately reflect a strategy for creating a diverse faculty;
  2. Identify and resolve problems arising from multicultural issues related to gender, class, race, ethnicity,

religion, etc., that can develop among students, faculty, and/or administrators;

  1. Review and evaluate institutional policies that support diversity initiatives in higher education

systems.
