Overview:: Perfect captions is an App for iPhone and iPad which allows you to create captions within photos. Captions can be callouts or text boxes. The App is free (November 2013) but can be upgraded within the App for more callout shapes and more fonts for $1.99.

Recommended Uses:: K-12 students could take pictures on field trips and develop individual captions. Instructors could assign a photo in science classes and have students use the program to label parts of a machine or a plant. Teacher education students could annotate pictures of classrooms, indicating areas for instruction. The App could be used by any grade or content. The app has personal uses as well, captioning pictures of family, friends and vacations.

Strengths:: The app is simple to use, very intuitive. The free version allows for several fonts and styles of callouts. There doesn't seem to be a real need for the paid upgrade. It allows for student/teacher interaction with instructional material. The App provides flexible use of images for teaching, learning, and assessment. It is easy to create tasks that utilize this tool.

Strengths:: Easy to create, save, and share or send. It can be used during introduction of new concept or reviewing material already presented. Utilizes basic pinch, zoom, and tap skills. Tutorials are available.
Concerns:: It is easy to import images from the Internet which may contain malware. Would suggest using own images taken with camera or images tested and provided by the instructor.

Other Issues and Comments:: Good tool for teaching, learning, and professional development. Available in the free version. Tasks can be set up for working as individual or as group collaborative. Users should be made aware of any copyright issues regarding photos.
