The laws and regulations of various countries that were closed to foreign investment have opened up today. They provide a variety of opportunities for investment. The material also lists many cautions that companies need to be aware of, like financial volatility, political stability, labor and environmental concerns. The material provides adequate material to understand the positive aspects and concerns of investing in foreign markets.
The ‘For Teachers’ section is particularly impressive as they provide a series of topics that discuss globalization in detail and how it is liked to foreign investment. The ‘Issue briefs’ section has discussion on some interesting topics like women and globalization, environment, role of the IMF, human rights. Each section is clearly classified, namely, factors that influence, positive effects, concerns, conclusions. The concepts are well defined and discussed. In addition, at the end of each section the site provides a set of discussion questions. There is a quiz section to test one’s knowledge of the material. The glossary of terms is well documented. The website also provided a detailed bibliography and a long list of suggested readings. Under the ‘For teacher’s’ tab the various modules are individually explained. A work in progress module is attempting to translate these in Chinese. In the reader’s contribution section, certain schools have posted their lesson plans on Globalization.
Concerns:
The emphasis of the content is mainly on financial aspects of globalization and does not cover some important traditional issues of globalization like marketing and communication.
