Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Material is current and up to date in the field. The most recent “update” noted on website is April 2021. Examples and activities are relevant for modern day applications. Introductions and summaries are offered for each chapter to introduce and summarize concepts. There are 21 chapters of material to choose from. Tables, diagrams, and images are used throughout to provide organized visuals or visual examples of the material to be covered. Material covered in earlier modules is often referenced in other modules to connect concept learning throughout the text.
Concerns:
It would be beneficial in some courses for a version of the book to be more concise, emphasizing the more essential points for each chapter.
Chapter 10 on global inequality could discuss imperialism as a distinct theory since cultural imperialism is mentioned in Chapter 3. It would be appropriate to also distinguish dependency theory from theories of imperialism. Clearer explanation of neoliberalism as policy and theory could also be provided, since it was mentioned in the "Global Feminization of Poverty" section.
Chapter 11 on race and ethnicity could discuss critical race theory and racial formation theory. A deeper discussion on institutional racism could be incorporated as related to education, housing, employment, and life changes.

Rating:
Strengths:
The quizzes provided at the end of each chapter have the answer keys provided so students can check themselves. There is a highlight and notes option available, so students can key in on main points in the text using highlight and take notes electronically as they use the text online. Each chapter and module is laid out with objectives, introduction, headings, and summaries to provide easy flow. There is a table of contents for easy access to any material and a search bar to use to search within the text content. Accessibility tool “Google Chrome extension Read and Write” was tested in a chapter for reading purposes and worked well over all. App was downloaded on Android phone “Galaxy 21” and worked as well as access to the text via internet including easy navigation.
Concerns:
None.
Other Issues and Comments:
