Overview:

This is an expanded presentation on using and adapting OER resources at a community college level. Questions posed are making resources accessible and standardized with universal design for learning (Cast.org Framework).

The authors discuss challenges and opportunities for the  design during COVID 19 era.

When faculty start using OER, one of the most exciting opportunities that the open license affords is for faculty to customize their courses to fit the needs of their students. In this discussion, we will explore some of the theory and practice around designing engaging, accessible, and inclusive OER courses. We will discuss how using OER can enable faculty to embrace good design principles for student-centered instruction in fully online courses or face-to-face courses, augmented with online components. We’ll discuss the advantages of this approach in our current, COVID-19 world."

Faculty are using OER to design optimal learning  experience for their students. This presentation discusses collaobrative work of  instructional designers, educational technologists, and faculty to  design good courses with OER.

Understanding of curriculum development, instructional approaches, and the use of digital tools for productivity and collaboration

Strengths:

The presenters given clear summaries of the work they have undertaken

 Excellent discussion of OER and implementation, especially during the pandemic. Very thorough discussion and good references.

Helpful diagrams and equity discussion (how can students get access to  materials). Challenges with accessability.

 Discussion Accessibilty and UDL framework.

Excellent discussion  of face to face vs. COVID 19 virtual learning.

Concerns:

The moment of silence at the beginning and some of the interruptions for "housekeeping" should be edited out as they add nothing to the goal and distract viewers' attention

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Strengths:

Excellent as a supplementary teaching tool. It's also a good self paced review session.

 

Concerns:

This would be far more effective if it were broken up into labeled chunks, or at a minimum, time stamps and links pointed to relevant transitions
