a dozen video tutorials showing how to use web 2.0 tools

Howevere, three of them went to a dead end: Voice Thread, Twitter, and Glogster, and You Suck at photoshop is inappropriate for this environment.

Other than the last one on Photoshop (and the three unavailable ones), all were good tutorials for the beginner, with good ideas to use in the classroom or in an online class.

They also give some ideas on creating your own screencasts.

Technical Requirements:

The videos are on YouTube, which is a universally-playable video site.

Identify Major Learning Goals:

The videos provide guided tours of web 2.0 tools for those who have little or no expereince.

I would recommend that the last one on Photoshop NOT be used. This isn't exactly professional language-humor doesn't qualify.

The others were good tutorials for the beginner.

College General Ed, teachers to use in classrooms; instructors and trainers.

Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:

Basic computer skills; willigness to learn new skills, reasonably up to date computer or chromebook (NOTE: chromebook obviously won't work for photoshop).

Strengths:

Most videos are well-produced with complete introductions, clear audio, and visable screen tours.

Take out the photoshop one. It is not appropriate for the intended audience. Such tutorials are fine but not in a classroom or as part of a reference in a workplace.

Concerns:

Inappropriate video; three of the videos no longer load. The links to them should be removed -or the videos must be redone.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Strengths:

These are good tutorials; however, when a reference or a video listed isn't availble, the quality of the resource isn't as good. It is expected that everything works and if it doesn't-it needs to be fixed.

Concerns:

All had potential for engaging students, but three were unavailable and the last one on Photoshop was inappropriate and should not be used.

Edutopia is a well known resource; therefore, it is essential that its posted materials are top notch and professional.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Strengths:: Again, if the last one on Photoshop had not been part of the group, the rating would hae been higher: three were not available, so the rating was low.

Other Issues and Comments:

Add back the three missing videos; remove the links if that is no longer possible.

Remove the reference to Photoshop and create a more appropriate video (for the general audience).
