This website contains a java script. The java script basically serves as an imbedded application inside a website. This application allows students to practice safe laboratory techniques before being allowed into the laboratory. Students could be shown a safe lab technique video and then rather then the normal boring safety quizzes you could require the students log onto the website and be graded based on their actual technique. One important example would be that of adding acid to water. Even in the upper level courses students will forget if you add water to acid or acid to water, this is something that could be easily practiced and perfected on this website. I think this is a very beneficial website to have students use. For students who have a disability or maybe a language barrier this could also be a helpful website. Someone could be in a wheelchair and then it might be better for them to do the experiments online rather then in a small lab where they are not able to safely perform the assignment.

The school that I have been completing my student observations in uses this website. I think that if it is used properly (like most internet sources) it is very beneficial. It provides you with helpful worksheets, videos, quizzes, and resources for students to easily and enjoyably learn topics in science. I have been observing both a regent level and ESL/ELA 8th grade living environment class. BrainPop is used in both types of classes and is very efficient. It is a wonderful visual representation, which could be used to either introduce or solidify the topic being taught. Another benefit is that the students really seem to enjoy the BrainPop activities and actually seem to learn from them. I would readily suggest this website to any current or future teacher. This website offers help in more areas then just science and thus could be used across content areas.

A difficult concept for students has always been the periodic table. It is a bulky, overwhelming, confusing map that is one of the most important tools in the chemistry classroom. Once you can learn to understand and interpret it you can get a lot of information out of it. The periodic table is one of the first few topics reviewed in high school chemistry. Students are expected to learn group names, the reasons for things being grouped together, valence shells, etc. This website places all that information in one place and in an easy to understand format. Clicking an element takes you to a page with a description, physical information, atomic information, and other important information about the element. This website would be very useful for students in HS and at a collegiate level.

Flinn Science is a very helpful resource for future educators. Even in the course that I am in now we all received survival packages to help us get through the first year of teaching, they are all for helping benefit science educators. This website offers helpful links in all the different sciences.

All of the other resources in my personal collection involve hands on, interactive learning. This resource is helpful for the repetition and rote memorization. A lot of time students will find making note cards helpful for studying, however if you are having a hard time with the material in the course you may not know what to put on the note cards. This link provides you with a collection of premade note cards in a variety of topics and courses. The courses include: AP Chemistry and General Chemistry. These would be good for someone who needed to review basic concepts or a student in a high school or introductory college level course.
