Description: “Who wants pizza?” is a kid-friendly website devoted to helping students learn and practice using fractions. The home page shows a well-organized table of contents so that students can pick the level they need. First, there is an introduction to fractions along with practice. Students can work through parts 2-6 to learn and practice equivalent fractions, adding fractions, and multiplying fractions. The page acts as a step-by-step tutorial where students are given an example, then are given a chance to practice on their own. The correct answers are also given and the students can see their score. At this point, they can decide whether to move forward if they understand, or go back and review the same level if they are having difficulty. This website is a great starting off point for 2nd or 3rd graders beginning to learn fractions. The higher levels would be more for students in higher grades or for those high-level 2nd or 3rd graders who need an extra challenge. The site is non-cluttered and easy to follow with simple illustrations and wording. This site also includes a “Teachers” link in which you can see the fraction objectives broken down by grade level as well as additional links with information on fractions.

Description: This site contains a large amount of free, ready-made Reader’s Theatre scripts for children. Many of them are based off of stories from the author, Aaron Shepard, and many are retellings of tales from a variety of cultures. Although there are links to buy Shepard’s books and other resources, the use of his many Reader’s Theatre scripts is completely free. Most of them are targeted for use by children ages 8-15, but most are broken down more specifically so that you can find the ones you need. For example, many are listed for ages 7-9. The scripts range from a variety of topics and stories, and they are all brief and well-organized on the page with the age range and other information about the type of script. Ways to Use this Site: I would use this site for myself as a teacher. I think Reader’s Theatre is a great way to build fluency and self-esteem with young readers, and I would enjoy using some of these scripts during my guided reading time as well as my whole group Teacher Directed Reading time. The students could work on the same script in different groups and perform for each other, or I could assign different scripts to different sets of students depending on their needs and interests. I always want to do Reader’s Theatre in my classroom, but often I just don’t have time to write a script. This will be such a nice resource to just click on one on the website and have a ready-made script, free to use. Evaluation: This site is a great resource for teachers looking to implement Reader’s Theatre in their classrooms. However, the topics of the scripts range greatly and many are just not appropriate for students as young as mine. I had to carefully look through the scripts, but when I did, I found many appropriate ones. Teachers will just have to take the time to find the most appropriate scripts for their students. The site is also well-organized and easy to explore.
