This site offers students a close-up look and many pieces of art. It has an area where you can view the art and read a description about the artist and the background of the painting. It allows you to zoom in on the picture and see the artwork up close. The site also has virtual tours of the palace and the museum. It also offers a history of the palace beginning in the middle ages and going through present day. Ideas for how to use the site- I could use this site in my World History class anytime we discuss a new time period. For the study of the ancient Greeks I could show the students samples of their pottery and their paintings that the book does not show them. This site could also be used when discussing the Italian Rennisance. I would show them the Mona Lisa and have them read the background of the painting and the biography of Da Vinci. I would then have them free write their opinion on who they think the woman was, if she is smiling and why she was painted. I could also use this site when discussing Louis XIV. I would design a vrtual fieldtrip where the students had to tour the palace and explore the design and the reason behind each add on to the original palace. Then they would have to design their own palace and explain why they designed it that particular way and what each room is for. Evaluation- This site is very teacher friendly. It would require direction if students were to use it. The biographies of the painters and the background of the artwork is very accurate as is the history of the palace. The site does tie in to the SCOS for World History and covers the topic of Louis XIV very well.
