Some of the videos in this collection can be useful to have discussions regarding the cultural aspect of the language, however most of the videos are targeted towards a more advanced level of Spanish. Some of the resources can be adapted in order to be used at the elementary level, but the concepts in the activities are a great resource to create activities and lesson plans. The resources found on this page can be used by teachers at different grade levels, as well as language levels.

In this case, Spanish teachers can find a lot of resources that range from grammar to resources that address cultural aspects, such as pop culture Spanish Spanish-speaking countries. This website contains a lot of links to different resources from various categories, such as sources for dictation, accent marks, punctuation, and conjugation, that create a complete website where teachers can find primary resources to teach in class.

UVic’s Language Teaching Clipart Library is a useful website for elementary Spanish teachers (teachers in upper grades too) to find clipart and images to use in classroom presentations, activities, or other tasks. I think that this resource is super useful to create resources for students who have visuals. When learning a language, visuals are an important part of the lesson, as they help to facilitate the understanding of vocabulary. This website is a good resource to find different images to include in lessons and activities.

“Teaching Literacy in Spanish” is an article by Kathy Escamilla. This article is a useful resource to differentiate the teaching and learning of literacy skills in Spanish. One of the most important takeaways from this article is the different methods and pedagogies when teaching English and when teaching Spanish. This article does a great job of pointing out the similarities and differences between both languages, as well as providing useful teaching skills that can be applied when teaching Spanish. Escamilla points out the specific grammatical and oral rules that can be found in Spanish but not in English. Thus, leads to the need for different teaching strategies to account for the different aspects of the languages. This article is useful for Spanish teachers to know that there are skills that can be applied to teaching English and some can be transferred when teaching Spanish, but some methodologies cannot be applied since there are differences in the languages.

Free Online Reading Passages and Literacy Resources lead to a website titled CommoLit. This website can be really useful for Spanish teachers to find texts to use in their lessons. This website provides various reading levels and the searches can be filtered depending on what you are looking for. A really useful filter from this website is the ability to search articles/texts by “Target Lesson,” which is useful for covering specific topics, such as environmental awareness and the importance of diversity. This resource could be more useful for upper elementary grades (from 3rd grade up) to read and practice language skills in Spanish.
