Learning about the American Civil War and Reconstruction through videos, pictures, interactive websites, and readings (addresses CA standard 11.1.4). Includes multiple sites with more visual-based learning for students that are ELL or have learning challenges related to reading. Some of the diversity of this lesson is provided by a biography of Frederick Douglas, born a slave he became a prominent figure in American politics and the poetry of James Whitfield a free Black American.
