This activity allows students to explore the principles, promises, and pitfalls of distance education, and articulate methods by which a distance education program can be pedagogically successful.

Exercise

Download the paper from the University of Illinois and open within a word processor application (59 pages).

Peruse the paper, focusing on similarities and differences between in-person and distance teaching and learning.

Create a 1500-2500 word essay on procedures to ensure that, should you be placed in charge of distance education program, that you could guide it to allow for teaching and learning at least at the same level as in-person learning. Concepts to be reported should include, at a minimum, ensuring pedagogical validity and procedures for evaluation.
