Learning Exercise
Help The Blind, Spot Your Students.
This is a fun activity to show your students that what you see is not always "what you see". Your eyes gather light from your surroundings and relays the information to your brain via the optic nerve. The brain interprets and makes sense of the light gathered by the eyes.

Exercise
1. Have students look up or name the five senses
of the human body.
2. Pick one volunteer from class and assign a
simple task to them ( Ex. Send a
student to feed the fish going from the front to
the back of the room.)
3. Have the same student repeat the same task
but blind fold the student.
4. The rest of the class observes the student
strugle because he/she no longer can use
vision to for guidance to get from point A to
point B.
5. Mention to your students that the eyes gather

6. Sometimes the brain tries to make sense of the
things you see by filling in the gaps. Have
students go to the site and read through to see
if they can find their blind spot.
