The Raid on Deerfield in 1704 reflects the complexity of relationships between the French and the British and the Indian tribal states of the Kanienkehaka, Wendat, and the Wobanaki. The site offers five different perspectives from the five above mentioned groups. History is interpretative with a variety of meanings and stories. Read and listen to the introduction. Read the information about each of the five cultures in conflict with each other in Colonial Massachusetts. Go through each one of the TEN subdivisions of the Story Menu. Then "enter the conflict." Write an 8-10 page paper answering the following questions: 1). Why was the raid on Deerfield conducted?; 2). How did each of the five groups view their history and legacy in regard to Deerfield?; 3). What were the consequences of the Raid?; 4). Was the raid justified and what did it achieve?; 5). What were the consequences for each group?; 6). How would you interpet this episode of Colonial American History?
