Learning Exercise
Applying Tinbergen's Questions and Marr's Levels
You will practice applying the foundational frameworks to a unique personality trait of your choosing.
This chapter covers foundational frameworks for tackling research questions in the social sciences --- such as... see more
Exercise
Think of a unique trait term that you think is interesting. The more creative or uncommon the trait term, the better.
Develop a research question at the proximate level about the trait and make some hypotheses (educated guesses that might answer the research question). Then, develop a research question at the ultimate level about the trait and make some hypotheses to answer the question.
After you've developed some questions, try to sketch out a description of the trait for each of Marr's levels of analysis. You'll want to write about what the function of the trait is for the computational level, then develop a step-by-step description of how the trait might perform that function for the algorithmic level, and finally think about how these algorithmic steps might be implemented in organic organisms.
